Workshop Outline
This is a training to help create bonding, connecting, and build a music foundation in the lives of the children in your life.
Who I am and what I bring to this workshop
- Parent, private music teacher, church organist, public school teacher, choir director, soloist, actress, choir member (a cappella group DV) recipient of being sung to.
- Education BA and MM CSU, voice training since Jr High, choirs, Kodaly Certified, studied in Italy and Hungary.
- Passionate about singing as an outlet and way to bond with your child or a child in your life. Honor your personality, but give the energy of music a chance. Many others promote singing with your child, this is not a NEW thought.
- Leaders in the field, Jill Trinka, Sister Lorna Zemky, Jo Kirk, are a few who have touch my life, but many others out there working towards this as a Common good.
Insert a song that is fun and easy that they can all sing!!
Why Sing with your child ? Beyond the obvious!
- Daniel Levitin books: This is your Brain on Music, Six Songs of the WorldOxytocin (neurochemical, or hormone) this is the “bonding” hormone, research proves that this is created when you join together in song.
- Kodaly teaching
- Books and Quotes, Dr Thaut’s work with stroke victims
- Singing is not just for professionals, it’sa human right to join voices in song
- Memory building for you and them, words not so important “lalala” is always exceptible, sort of like scatting!
- Creating a generation of singers
- Starting with Lullabies when the child is a baby, which will help facilitate singing together as they grow up. Not as exposed.
- Make singing an incorporation into activities, you do not need a “new” thing to cause stress
How To Sing Elements

Folk Music
- Folk music is the music of the people. There can be no better material for singing than the songs and games used by children for centuries.
- Folk Music has all the basic characteristics needed to teach the foundations of music and to develop a love of music – a love that will last a life time.
- Folk music is the classical music of the people, and, as such, is a perfect bridge leading to and working hand-in-hand with-art music.
“The compositions of every country, if original, are based on the songs of its own people. That is why their folk songs must be constantly sung, observed, and studied.” (Kodály, 1964)
