Nurture Your Child Through Song |

One of my earliest memories is hearing my mother sing – and feeling the vibration of her voice as she held and rocked me. What a beautiful gift to bestow upon your children: a tender connection that lasts a lifetime.
This album is designed to help you reconnect with the songs that are stored in your memory – the songs of your youth and heritage. This may sound like a strange request, but please don’t play these songs for your child. Instead, I want you to play them for yourself – so you can learn them and pass them on in your own voice. I’m hoping you’ll start early by singing lullabies to your baby before birth, then continue during infancy with more lullabies while holding and rocking, then nursery songs with finger play and clapping as your child grows.
My inspiration for this CD came in part from Zoltan Kodaly, a prominent 20th century Hungarian composer and musician. Kodaly believed that vocal training should precede instrumental training, and begin as early as possible. He also promoted the idea of passing down centuries-old songs and games to teach music to children. Today, the Kodaly Concept is used in children’s music programs throughout the world.
By learning the songs of our American culture and sharing them with your child, you’ll connect in a very special way – and help to keep this wonderful musical tradition alive.
